Youth ministry in our present culture has in many places become simply social in nature in that activities have become the central thrust of youth work. In spite of the fact that today’s youth groups are more active than ever, Christian teens are too often unclear about the Bible’s teaching concerning their lives. Compounding this problem is the fact that the parents of teenagers are often unclear about the Bible’s teaching with reference to raising teenagers “in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4). We believe that it is the role of the youth ministry to help both parents and teens in their responsibilities to God and each other. Therefore, the main emphasis of the youth ministry at Tri-Lakes Baptist Church is placed upon the doctrines of Scripture. We believe that the greatest tool in raising young people for Christ is a thoroughly biblical mindset. Therefore, we delight in teaching our teens the great truths of God’s Word. We believe that doctrine determines behavior and therefore, doctrine is neither boring nor irrelevant.
As a ministry of the local church, the youth ministry maintains the same purpose as the church —to glorify God. We believe that this aim is accomplished through Worship, Instruction, Fellowship, and Evangelism. The difference in ministry to adults and to teens lies in the realm of application. We seek to apply our aim through maintaining a balanced youth ministry which provides opportunities in fulfilling our purpose.
